Jeff Hanson, “Blind Artist”
Jeff Hanson, Festival in Holland
22 year old Jeff Hanson is an artist, and also legally blind. He has low vision from an optic nerve tumor associated with a genetic condition called neurofibromatosis. The tumor caused severe vision loss in 2005, requiring chemotherapy and radiation. He paints in spite of his low vision, using bright, vivid colors and thick paint. He paints from his Overland Park studio, and occasionally gets a little help from his family in the preparation, but the work is all his. And he is selling remarkably well. His collectors include Warren Buffet and Elton John. His paintings have been used as inspiration for red-carpet gowns- an entire collection. In fact, he is selling so well, he can’t keep up with demand and even donated more than 1 million dollars worth of his artwork since 2006. He has been featured in Newsweek, The Huffington Post, CNN and CBS Sunday Morning to name only a few.
Here is one of Jeff’s own videos “Lessons from CLOD”- you can hear the story from him and see his beautiful work. If this doesn’t inspire you to paint, I don’t know know what will!
